Should I download the Internet Browser for the Nintendo Wii?

I've had my Wii for some time now and I actually want to expand its horizons. I heard you can watch youtube videos on the internet browser and play some flash games. The question I have is it worth spending the $5 for it.

  1. It's got an old version of flash on it. It can be used to watch youtube videos, but most games will be hard without a real keyboard, if they run at all due to the version of flash included. If you have a computer already, leave the browsing to that. I have the Opera Browser since I was able to download it for free when it was in beta, and it's pretty lousy. If you have $5 burning a whole in your pocket, get Mega Man 2, or something.
  2. I agree with IIaffer. Browsing on a TV can be very frustrating if your TV is a conventionnal one. Unless you don't have a PC for browsing the Internet this solution is a bad one. I wanted to do the same thing at first but I quickly reallised that browsing the Internet on a TV is far from being user friendly. Especially if you're using the Wiimote with a keyboard. Putting down the Wiimote to use the keyboard with both hands becomes quickly anoying compared to the old Mouse-Keyboard config. of the PC. Nevertheless, Nintendo first wanted us to see the Wii as a central family computer and that's exactly what we're triying to do. But something is missing to really make it work. Depending on thour type of TV, it would be a better solution to connect your PC directly to it instead. At least for now. Some people developped drivers to use the Wiimote with your PC if it's Bluetooth enabled. I tried it and it works very well. Have fun! Edit: By the way, I noticed you're expanding your Wii's horizon. I suggest you look at the Wiibrew solution. There are "some" interresting "legal" stuff in that way.
  3. Lower resolution than most sites are designed for + slow performance + no plug-in download support = waste of money unless you don't have any PC at home.
