How can I view Japanese characters on my internet browser?
I have Netscape browser and the latest Internet Explorer. Is there anything I can download FOR FREE that can let me see Japanese characters on the web?

- Hi! In order to view Japanese characters, you need to install Japanese fonts on your PC! Go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages Tab Check "Install fonts for East Asian Languages" and click okay You might need your WinXP CD.
- The first thing you have to do is install the East Asian font packs onto your PC. 1. Go to Settings/Control Panel/Regional and Language Options. 2. Double click the Regional and Language Options icon. 3. Click the Languages tab. 4. Check the Install Files for East Asian Languages box. 5. Click OK. After the East Asian fonts are installed, go back to the Language Options control panel again. Then: 6. Click the Advanced tab. 7. For "Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use" select Japanese. Open your browser. Go to View/Encoding from the menu in your browser. There are 4 viable settings for Japanese: Japanese (Auto-Select); Japanese (Shift JIS); Japanese (EUC); and Unicode (UTF-8). Netscape seems to be happy with Shift JIS, but for some reason, IE sometimes wants Japanese (EUC), and sometimes it wants Unicode (UTF-8). Launch a Japanese web site such as www.asahi.com. If the characters don't look right, then keep changing the encoding until they do look right.
