Do I have to buy the Internet browser for the Nintendo Wii if I wanna play online with a friend?

I just got myself a Wii, and I've been wondering whether I have to purchase the Internet Browser from Wii shop in order to play online against a friend in a game like Smash Bros or Mario Kart Wii.

2. No, it is exactly like xbox live. you choose to play online from the game main menu.
3. Nintendo Wi-Fi is free. You can play against your friend along as you exchange friend codes, but that's not too difficult. Mario Kart Wii has a really good Wi-Fi server, but Brawl's is just frustrating. So if you want to play Brawl with your friend, I'd suggest you have him/her come over and "brawl out!"
4. no u dont the internet channel is just the internet on ur wii it has notin to do with ur connections but u do have to have a working wierd or wireless connection for brawl to work online ps:watch out 4 people with bad wifi they will really lag up ur match
5. No you don't, there is built-in wifi. You go to your wii settings and choose your network. Worked for me! go mkwii!
