My windows xp can connect to the internet but wont show up on the web browsers?

I have a windows xp on a vaio laptop that has an great internet connection but cant access web pages through internet browsers and i need help to fix it

1. what are your default program settings? can you try and install Internet explorer or Firefox to update any rogue files? Peter
